Just recently, a four-year-old Standard Poodle had been surrendered to a local Dallas, Texas shelter. Her family had encountered a serious financial situation and had been forced to move. Sadly, Helen was not covered in their family plans.
The shelter environment overwhelmed Helen, and the 55-pound dog was highly fearful and avoided all human interaction. She also showed some reactivity behind kennel bars, but slowly had been calming down and allowed herself to be leashed from time to time.
The shelter believed her behavior would improve once she could be placed in a quieter and calmer environment, however the shelter’s overcrowding and lack of space hindered special attention for dogs dealing with the stress of shelter life. Helen was scheduled to be humanely euthanized…
