The DeSoto Police Department recently reported the apprehension of a suspect linked to a series of thefts at Walgreens stores. Through a social media post made public by the department, details emerged of an incident last Wednesday, when officers rapidly responded to a theft at the Walgreens on E. Pleasant Run Road. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old James Louis Oppenhammer Jr. of Dallas, was caught before he could leave the premises by officers who arrived within a crisp four-minute window.
Witnesses at the store pointed out Oppenhammer as the individual involved in thefts occurring since March 2025 across various Walgreens locations. In the process of the arrest, law enforcement officials discovered stolen items valued at about $185. Despite the seemingly small sum, Oppenhammer’s history of four prior felony theft convictions elevated the recent theft to a felony level.
Further investigation by the DeSoto detectives, aided by facial recognition technology and cooperation from Walgreens, connected Oppenhammer to nine thefts, each being classified as State Jail Felonies. Found with him at the time, two accomplices, Clifford Sheffield, 66, and Denise Williams, 50, also from Dallas, faced charges for minor drug possession as they waited in a white 1997 Buick sedan near the crime scene…
