Medical City Arlington welcomed patients to its newly expanded medical center on August 22. The $144 million addition, complete with a new patient tower, four new specialty operating rooms, and an expanded visitor lobby, expands the site by more than 127,000 square feet. Medical City Arlington expects a 50 percent increase in surgical capacity at its 496-bed medical center. The Arlington expansion is a part of Medical City’s planned $1.7 billion in capital improvements over five years.
Alphabet subsidiary Verily dropped its medical device program last week, first reported by Business Insider. The Coppell-based company created medical devices to integrate healthcare and artificial intelligence for precision healthcare but was cut down to refocus towards AI and data systems. Verily also cut staff within the company started in Google’s X Lab, though the exact number has not been shared. The streamlining move adds to Alphabet’s ongoing trend, including its February HR cuts and voluntary exit program for more than 25,000 of its employees.
The City of Fort Worth is hosting a panel next week, diving into Fort Worth’s history as the home of one of two U.S. federal drug rehabilitation facilities for a third of the 20th century.
