Texas chef has good and bad news about stolen barbecue smoker

One of the most celebrated fine-dining chefs in Texas, who over the last few years has embraced being a barbecue pitmaster and doing his own thing, lost his trusty smoker trailer two months ago. This week, acclaimed Dallas-Fort Worth chef Kent Rathbun provided an update on the missing item and had some good news moving forward.

The trailer in question is one Rathbun—a four-time James Beard award-nominated chef—was gifted in 2001, a birthday present from Baxter Brinkmann, CEO of grill and smoker manufacturer Brinkmann. Surveillance footage shared by Rathbun shows that around 10:30 p.m. July 6, at least two individuals broke into the lot at 4093 Don Drive in Dallas and drove off with the trailer hitched to a white truck. Over multiple Instagram posts following the incident, Rathbun expressed his frustration over losing the trailer.

Along with that, Rathbun announced a $1,000 reward for information regarding the stolen item. Thanks in part to the generosity of friends, the reward had climbed to $7,500 and then, as of Aug. 8, $13,000…
