Arlington residents will see an increase in their water, trash, and stormwater fees starting Oct. 1, as the city adjusts rates to meet the financial requirements of its utilities’ operations. According to an announcement by the City of Arlington, the upcoming fiscal year demands an additional $13.9 million to keep water flowing and sewers functioning, necessitating a water rate increase of 6.54% for minimum residential users and 7.94% for average residential users; these adjustments translate roughly to an additional $2.18 and $5.89 per month, respectively.
The budgetary pressures leading to these cost upticks are attributed to hikes in essential services and infrastructure such as a $1.7 million increase for raw water from the Tarrant Regional Water District, a substantial $7 million rise for wastewater treatment overseen by the Trinity River Authority and consequently an increase in debt service payments amounting to $2.7 million, and an incremental surge in electricity costs by $434,396.
