‘It’s painful’: Fort Worth bakery owner’s pantry helps feed families through shutdown, SNAP delays

FORT WORTH, Texas — Inside Eduardo’s Pastry Kitchen in Fort Worth, the smell of fresh bread mixes with the sound of shelves being restocked. These days, owner Eduardo Arreola’s primary focus has been on a makeshift pantry and less on baking cheesecakes.

Arreola started a small food pantry in his shop to help neighbors struggling to put meals on the table. He thought it might last a few days. Instead, it’s become a lifeline for dozens of families.

“One day, I restocked everything to this capacity four times in one day,” Arreola said. “They’re really thankful. Some have cried. Some make it to the parking lot and leave because they feel shame. Everyone deserves to eat.”…
