North Texas transportation leaders are approving $1.2 million for a series of transit upgrades designed to handle the surge of visitors expected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The funding, approved by the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Regional Transportation Council, supports improvements to the McKinney Avenue Trolley, the Trinity Railway Express and emergency-response tools across the region.
Documents show the upgrades include new maintenance support for the M-Line Trolley in Dallas, a pilot program to enhance service on the TRE between Dallas and Fort Worth, and artificial-intelligence technology aimed at helping 911 dispatchers communicate with callers who speak limited English.
