The film industry in North Texas is booming, and cities like Fort Worth have become true hubs for Texas creatives. The boom has brought a ton of business to the area, creating jobs and opportunities for Texans working in the film industry to work in their home state. But constant road closures and shutdowns caused by film and television productions have everyday Texans frustrated, especially up north.
Fort Worth is betting big on film. Over the past 10 years, the growing business has created about 50,000 jobs and generated about $1 billion in revenue, drawing a lot of attention and driving interest in the prospect of filming there. During her State of the City speech last month, Mayor Mattie Parker referred to film as the “next great industry in Fort Worth” and likened its success to that of railroads, livestock and defense.
The city now houses the state’s largest production studio, a collaboration among Taylor Sheridan’s production company SGS Studios, Paramount and property development firm Hillwood, with plans to build an even bigger studio next year.
