FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police issued about 326 citations and made 29 arrests this year as part of an effort to reduce panhandling, according to a new report from the city.
This year, the Fort Worth Police Department placed a new emphasis on discouraging panhandling. The effort involved placing signs to deter panhandling near roadways and activating special operations to enforce the city’s panhandling ordinances.
In August, the city erected signs that read “It’s O.K. to say no to panhandlers” and direct drivers to several nonprofits serving the homeless community. The city said in a press release that it will monitor the impacts of the sign over the next 12 months, WFAA previously reported…
