Police and firefighters in Texas came together one early morning to save a horse that had gotten trapped in a local cattle guard.
In December 2024, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office called up the Fort Worth Fire Department for reinforcements after they arrived at the scene, where the horse had three of its legs stuck in the guard rails.
“It appears that at some point in the night, he either tried to jump it or did not see it because it was a dark area and he stepped into it, and when he did, they sit about four to six feet into the ground so he was stuck,” Livestock Deputy Dalton Warren told NBC DFWafter the fact.
“This morning TCSO LEEP Unit requested assistance from Fort Worth Fire Department to help remove a horse that was stuck in a cattle guard at Alta Vista & Birch,” the Sheriff’s Office shared on social media at the time alongside photos of the rescue mission. “One of our deputies sedated the horse to keep him safe while Rescue 38’s crew cut and spread the cattle guard to free the three legs that were stuck. After 45 minutes FWFD was able to free the horse allowing us to use a skid steer to move the horse across the road and stand him up in the grass. Once the horse was able to stand up we were helped get him loaded into our TCSO trailer.”
While this could have been really bad news for the horse, he actually came out relatively unscathed from the incident…
