A Buddhist monk who was part of a group walking 2,300 miles from Fort Worth to Washington says he had his leg amputated Wednesday after a vehicle struck him last month near Houston.
The monks were on the 25th day of the “Walk for Peace,” which the group says aims to send a message of hope, compassion and mindfulness across the country. They were involved in an accident along U.S. 90 near Dayton on Nov. 19.
Walk for Peace announced the following day that one monk, identified as Maha Dam Phommasan, was in stable condition after surgery. They said the others received minor injuries and planned to continue the journey…
