Fort Worth Police Introduce K9 Copper, the Department’s New Electronic Detection Dog

The Fort Worth Police Department is welcoming one of its newest — and undeniably cutest — additions to the team: K9 Copper.

Copper is an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog assigned to the department through the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. His job is highly specialized. He’s trained to detect electronic devices that can store child exploitation material, including phones, laptops, tablets, USB drives and even tiny micro SD cards. His ability to pinpoint devices that might otherwise be overlooked makes him a valuable asset during search operations.

Copper is also certified as a service animal and can assist with PTSD. He’s trained to comfort children who have been victims of exploitation, offering a calm, grounding presence during difficult moments…
