Arlington Police Department Expands Presence with New Satellite Office in Southeast Quadrant

In Arlington, the local police department has stretched its tentacles deeper into the southeast quadrant of the city, a move heralded by officials as a step towards heightened security and community engagement. The new satellite office, also known as a “cop shop,” located at 6516 New York Avenue, is a product of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget approved by the Arlington City Council, and it marks the fourth installment for the South District’s public safety landscape.

Spanning an extensive area from west of U.S. 287 to State Highway 360, the South District is now punctuated by these law enforcement outposts—they exist inside the Parks Mall, at the Arlington Highlands, and near U.S. 287 and Sublett Road, in addition to the newest entry on New York Avenue, these spaces are not just for show, they are essentially work hubs built to enable officers to remain immersed in their patrol zones and finish paperwork without the commute back to the main station, and it’s this community footprint that Chief of Police Al Jones is betting on to change the game. “The cop shops really give our officers greater flexibility to spend more time in these areas, which is what we want,” Jones told the City of Arlington. “They also show our residents and stakeholders in those areas that their police department is invested in them.”…
