Canadian family stranded in U.S. after thieves steal passports, belongings

HOUSTON – A Canadian family’s holiday trip to the U.S. turned into a nightmare after thieves stole nearly all their belongings, including their passports, leaving them stranded.

Mingchu Shih and her family had planned a Christmas trip through Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. However, their plans were derailed on Christmas Eve when their car was broken into while parked at a lot near Xiaolong Dumpling Restaurant.

Shih recounted the moment they discovered the theft: “My daughter said, ‘oh why is the wind coming?’ and then we look at the back and we said ‘why is wind? oh my God!’ was smashed and we looked inside, and all of our things are gone.” The stolen items included luggage, laptops, tablets, a cell phone, credit cards, and all four passports…
