Fort Worth Issues Extreme Cold Warning for North Texas, Residents Urged to Protect Against Hypothermia, Frostbite

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued an extreme cold warning for North Texas, with wind chills expected to plunge as low as 10 below zero. According to the National Weather Service, this warning is in effect until 9 AM CST Tuesday. Residents are advised to take precautions against hypothermia and frostbite, which can occur rapidly under these conditions if adequate layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves, aren’t worn when going outside.

In response to the brutal cold, the National Weather Service strongly recommends dressing in multiple layers and covering all exposed skin. “Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite on exposed skin if precautions are not taken,” states the extreme cold warning. The current weather conditions also place a heightened importance on checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring pets are kept warm indoors.

The cold front has resulted in a stark dip in temperatures across the region. After a partly sunny start with temperatures struggling to reach 28 degrees, the mercury is slated to drop even further tonight. A low of around 12 degrees is forecasted, with wind chill values teetering between 4 and 9 degrees. The warmth will fight in vain against the harsh breath of Old Man Winter for the next several days. Looking forward, Dallas will see some sunny relief, but the air remains cold, especially at night, with low temperatures ranging from the low teens to the mid-20s throughout the week…
