As IndyCar racers whipped around Arlington’s Entertainment District on Sunday, it was hard not to quietly root for Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward, who had his Chevrolet-powered car running up front.
There’s no cheering in the press box, but Arlington, of course, is General Motors country. It has been since Mayor Tom Vandergriff, with key assists from his father, Hooker, and others in the business community, lured the manufacturer to build an assembly plant in Arlington in 1954.
