Texas heads to Fort Worth, takes on SEC foe in Sweet 16

AUSTIN (KXAN) — With Kentucky’s thrilling 74-73 win over West Virginia, the next opponent for the Texas women’s basketball team is from the Southeastern Conference.

The Longhorns and Wildcats will meet March 28 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, and while the time has yet to be determined, it’ll be an earlier game at either 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. The specific tip time should be announced after all second-round games are completed Monday night.

Texas could have been ‘practicing for no reason.’ Now they are in the Sweet 16.

The winner will advance to face either Michigan or Louisville in the Elite Eight, and then that winner will represent the region in the Final Four, set for April 3 and 5 in Phoenix.

Texas and Kentucky met at Moody Center on Feb. 9 during the SEC regular season, and the Longhorns claimed a 64-53 win. It was a breakout game for sophomore Justice Carlton, who posted a game-high 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Jordan Lee scored 13 points, but had an off night from the field, going 4-for-13 and 2-for-8 from 3-point range.
