ARLINGTON, Texas — Three members of the Hunt family, from Arlington, were sentenced to prison for their roles in a multimillion-dollar tax refund fraud scheme, according to the Department of Justice.
The family members were charged with organizing a scheme to file fraudulent tax returns in the names of alleged trusts they controlled. The scheme sought more than $8.5 million in tax refunds they were not entitled to receive, according to a release.
The scheme was able to accrue just over $1.7 million in fraudulent proceeds from the IRS. The family members used the money to purchase luxury goods including, furniture, cryptocurrency, luxury vehicles, and a house in Mississippi…
