Meet Our April Fort Worthian, Jonny Goodday

Every month, the print version of Fort Worth Magazine profiles a local mover and shaker who, through their work and personal pursuits, contributes to the fabric of our city. We call this running department — and the person we spotlight — the monthly “Fort Worthian.”

The grinding crunch of rubble, shattering of broken glass, and sharp crackle of scattered debris beneath Jonny Goodday’s worn leather boots are sounds he knows best from the darkest corners of his nightmares — or, more tangibly, from the now-demolished buildings he once filmed in.

And while the videographer hasn’t always harbored such an intense association with these monstrous sounds, it is one that has grown alongside the steady buckling of aging pillars and doorways across Fort Worth’s historic structures.

“I preserve history,” Goodday says. “I want to keep the things that people were proud of and once created from disappearing. When I come across a building that no one has any interest in, I see all the small details — all the unique curves — that you just don’t see any more in newer architecture.”…
