Banfield sentenced to life in prison for murders

On June 5, Brendan Banfield was sentenced to a life sentence in prison for the murder of his wife and a man he had catfished online.

Chief Judge Penney Azcarate sentenced Banfield after hearing emotional victim impact statements from family members of both victims, who described their traumas caused by the killings.

The prosecution said that Banfield had planned these murders with the help of his family au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães. Peres Magalhães was sentenced earlier this year for a reduced charge as part of a plea deal. Azcarate sentenced her to 10 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed…
