Community members celebrated Kefa Café’s 30th anniversary on Saturday with a party honoring the downtown Silver Spring mainstay’s three decades of service.
Ethiopian immigrant Abeba Tsegaye and her siblings, Abiy and Lene, opened the eatery at 963 Bonifant Street in 1996 and have since expanded to Kefa Café locations inside the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center and the Wheaton Public Library.
Despite a fire in 2015 and, more recently, construction of the Maryland Purple Line, which is nearing completion and has restricted traffic to the restaurant and other Bonifant Street businesses, Tsegaye told Bethesda Magazine last week that she hopes Kefa Café will continue to “bloom” for decades to come…
