Storms knock out power to more than 55,000 across Northern Virginia; Burke hit hard

A damaging line of thunderstorms swept across Northern Virginia this evening, toppling trees and power lines and knocking out power to more than 55,000 customers.

Fairfax County appears to have been hardest hit by high winds and heavy rain, with Dominion Energy reporting more than 27,000 without power across the county at 7:35 p.m.

Wind damage was severe in Burke, with speculation on social media of a possible tornado ripping through the area…
