Hundreds without power after severe storms swept through Northern Virginia

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Families are waking up without power on Tuesday after a strong storm surged across the DMV, leaving homes damaged and trees down.

The severe thunderstorm hit Fairfax County on Monday afternoon. Pictures of the aftermath showed trees sitting on cars and homes. Tree branches also blocked roads and debris was also scattered throughout parking lots.

According to the Dominion Energy outage map, nearly 7,000 customers were without power as of Tuesday morning. The majority of outages were in Fairfax County, Loudoun County and Stafford County.

In Fairfax County, the outage map reflected about 2,063 customers without electricity. A spokesperson told DC News Now that in the Burke community, where trees fell and poles snapped, about 638 customers remain without electricity Tuesday morning…
