Woman accused of using her cell phone during fatal hit-and-run crash in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A Virginia woman turned herself in to authorities several months after police said she was on her cell phone when she ran over and killed a man along Fairfax County Parkway.

Shaza Edris, 20, of Fairfax, is facing charges of felony hit and run involving death and using a handheld personal communications device while driving in the Dec. 23, 2025, crash that killed Jimmy Patterson, 50.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said on that day, officers were called around 9:43 a.m. after Patterson was found lying unresponsive in the grass median near Old Plains Road in Fair Oaks…
