Man accused of posing as Apple support to trick victims into gold bar scam in Loudoun

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (7News) — The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Gaithersburg, Maryland, man in connection with a scheme that allegedly used gold bars to defraud elderly victims.

Authorities said 29-year-old Junjie Wu has been charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit a felony, and wearing a mask in public. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The sheriff’s office said the case began after reports of a scam in which victims received a message on their computers warning that their device had been compromised and instructing them to call “Apple Support” at a provided number.

When victims called, officials said they were connected to individuals posing as fraud investigators who told them their investment accounts were at risk…
