U.S. Army to host town hall about Middleburg Training Center acquisition

The U.S. Army will host a town hall Thursday in Middleburg as it moves forward with its acquisition of the Middleburg Training Center.

As expected, the Army will be the newest tenant of the training center despite efforts to keep it under local ownership. The Virginia Equine Alliance, which had angled to purchase the property, said April 29 they could “not agree on the terms to purchase the property” from owner Chuck Kuhn, and that Kuhn had instead accepted the Army’s offer.

The Army will use the training center, which has boarded over 100 local horses and has a 7/8th-mile race track, as a training facility for the horses who pull the caissons during funerals at Arlington National Cemetery…
