MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy has agreed not to criminally prosecute people accused of violating the county’s new firearms restrictions near houses of worship while a federal lawsuit challenging the law moves forward, according to the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA).
The lawsuit was filed by the Silver Spring Jewish Center, Rabbi Menashe Shapiro and others. Bill 23-26 prohibits even licensed gun owners from carrying firearms within 100 yards of certain places of public assembly, including houses of worship.
