A Gaithersburg restaurant has been selected as Washington, DC’s representative on Cheapism’s 2026 list of “The Best Hole-in-the-Wall Spots for Fried Chicken in Every State.” It also earned a similar award from Tasting Table last year.
Chicken Basket, located at 30 N Summit Ave in Gaithersburg, was chosen by Cheapism for Washington D.C., despite actually being located in Montgomery County, Maryland. The listing shares that the location is in Silver Spring, but references and links to the longtime Olde Towne Gaithersburg store.
Cheapism praised the longtime restaurant for its made-to-order fried chicken and affordable prices, noting that while Chicken Basket “isn’t much to look at,” customers rave about the chicken and sides such as hush puppies and fries.
