HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The high costs of housing has been a challenge in the region for families.
Financial constraints simply make it a tough place in the DMV area to afford housing, especially if the household falls below the median income level.

Rep. David Trone (D-Md.) is pushing on Capitol Hill for an expansion of a low-income housing tax credit that he hopes to see signed into law.
Meanwhile, at the nonprofit Hagerstown Neighborhood Development Partnership, Blanca Tovar is on the front lines helping those who struggle to afford housing.
“People are finding it really tough faced with foreclosure,” Tovar said. “They don’t know what’s really going to happen to them.”
Inflation is driving the anxiety, according to Tovar. But in many cases the homeowner or renter is sick and can’t report to work or they simply lost their job, she said.
“They’re struggling to come up with a mortgage payment and to afford groceries,” Tovar said.
