AMERICANS in one county could get $800 per month thanks to a new government payment program.
The system is set to grant money from a $4 million pot to 175 people living in Maryland.
Prince George’s County, just outside Washington DC, started the guaranteed income program to help seniors and young adults who went through the foster care system.
The two groups will begin getting money from the program, known as “Thrive Prince George’s,” this year.
The application portal closed by January 1.
The program, aimed at equity, was funded partly by private donors and partly by the county.
PAYOUT TIME
The guaranteed income program was set up with “no strings attached,” allowing recipients to spend the money however they choose.
50 youths, between the ages of 18 and 24, will be selected for payment.
The youths must have aged out of the foster care system to be eligible.
125 seniors will also be selected.
“It is our hope that this program will lift Prince Georgians out of poverty, setting up some of our most vulnerable residents for success now, and for years to come — even after the program ends,” the county executive said in a statement.
