WEST VIRGINIA (WBOY) — West Virginia is home to the oldest ghost tour in the country, and it’s available all year long.
“O’ Be JoyFull” Historical Tours in Harpers Ferry, which is considered the most haunted place in West Virginia and was recently named one of the best Halloween destinations in America, hosts two-hour ghost tours throughout the year. The tour stops at notably haunted places like John Brown’s Fort, St. Peters Church and Harpers House.
The 53-year-old tour in the national historic park is based on stories from the 1977 book “A Ghost Tour of Harpers Ferry” by Shirley Daugherty, a paranormal skeptic who opened a restaurant in the town in 1968 and experienced ghostly phenomenon.
In addition to being the oldest ghost tour in the country, several groups including TripAdvisor have named it the best ghost tour in America.
