MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Montgomery County fire officials said a fire broke out at a home in Burtonsville on Friday afternoon, displacing two people and leaving around $200,000 in damages.
In a post on the X platform on March 7, Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) said crews were responding to the 3400 block of Greencastle Road, between Columbia Pike and Old Columbia Pike, for a house fire.

Upon arriving, they saw smoke coming from the roof of a single-family home. Crews discovered the blaze in the attic, and everyone inside the house escaped safely.
Around 50 firefighters were on the scene to extinguish the fire.
In an update Saturday, Piringer said the fire was accidental. Investigators said it likely broke out after workers used electrical sanders on the home’s roof, producing heat that ignited combustibles inside the wood soffit (the bottom side of the roof’s overhang)…
