TIMELINE: Tracking severe storms expected Monday afternoon in DC

Washington (7News) — The First Alert Weather Team is on Storm Alert after the year’s first string of 80-degree days will be met with a strong cold front on Monday, introducing the threat of strong-to-severe storms.

The timing of Monday’s cold front will be during the warmest, and most unstable, time of the day, which is the mid-to-late afternoon.

After some morning clouds, the skies look to quickly clear by lunchtime, allowing for temperatures to warm to the low 80s and destabilize the atmosphere.

However — while confidence is low on this — if clouds stick around longer in the day, that will lower the instability and likely lower the risk for severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has most of the DMV in either a Slight (2 out of 5) or Enhanced (3 out of 5) Risk for severe storms on Monday.

Storms will fire off in areas like Central Virginia and begin to move northeastward to the I-95 corridor right around the evening rush hour…
