New weapons detector at West Potomac High School removed after 1 day

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Parents and students expressed confusion and concern after weapons detection technology was removed from West Potomac High School in Fairfax County just one day after it was installed.

Fairfax County Public Schools launched the weapons scanners the morning after a 16-year-old student was critically stabbed Wednesday during a fight in between class. Police said a 15-year-old boy was charged with malicious wounding. The victim was in stable condition, according to the last update from FCPS.

Prior to the stabbing, FCPS had implemented a new pilot program across the county that would test 15 Open Gate devices at random high schools. West Potomac was not a part of the program when the stabbing occurred…
