‘This was 1000% avoidable’| Victims of deadly Sterling explosion seek millions of dollars in compensation

STERLING, Va. — More than a year after a house explosion in Sterling left one firefighter dead and others injured, a lawsuit has been filed against the company responsible for filling the leaking propane tank that later blew up.

On Feb. 16, 2024, firefighters arrived at a home along Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling for reports of the smell of gas outside the home. According to investigators, the smell was due to a leaking 500-gallon underground propane tank that later exploded, killing firefighter Trevor Brown and injuring 12 others.
