Maryland Scam: Police Warn of Fraudulent Text From “Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles“

Residents across the county have reported receiving a fraudulent text claiming to be from the “Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles” and demanding immediate payment. This agency does not exist, as it is called the Maryland Motor Vehicles Administration in Maryland, and the agency would not communicate with you via text.

The Takoma Park police department shared a warning, stating that it “has received reports of a text message claiming to be from the Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles demanding immediate payment. This is a scam.” More from Takoma Park Police below:
