The Prince George’s County Police Department’s (PGPD) Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) recently arrested two suspects in connection with a carrier scam that involved the impersonation of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) agents. The suspects are 30-year-old Zheng Xie of Flushing, New York, and 27-year-old Jianwei Wang of Monterey Park, California.
According to PGPD: “On May 15, 2025, FCU detectives opened an investigation into this scam. The victim advised on April 28, 2025, she received a call from an unknown number warning her of fraudulent activity on her Apple ID. The caller, who impersonated a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) agent, convinced the victim that several of her accounts were comprised. She was instructed to withdraw cash from her bank in order to secure her money. On two separate occasions, the victim handed over tens of thousands of dollars to imposter FTC representatives who came to her home. Following an investigation, PGPD FCU detectives arrested Xie and Wang on May 23, 2025.
The PGPD is working closely with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office on this investigation. A grand jury indicted both suspects last week. They are charged with conspiracy to commit theft scheme and related charges…
