Taxpayer advocate calls Gov. Moore’s buyout plan ‘smart government’

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore released details of his plan to downsize the Maryland government workforce, involving $20,000 buyouts and $300 for each year of service for state employees.

This move is an attempt cut $121 million in government spending in the 2026 fiscal year, as the state faces a $3 billion deficit.

Eligible employees have until Aug. 4 to apply for the program, and will also receive six months of state-paid health benefits…
