WATCH: Loudoun sheriff warns of scammers posing as deputies

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (7News) — The Loudoun County sheriff appeared on Monday’s 7News at noon to discuss several high-profile crime cases, including another scam where a victim was duped out of $36,000 by “conmen” posing as Loudoun County sheriff deputies.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said the criminals will call their victims, claiming to be a deputy. They threaten the victim with arrest and demand money. The “conmen” have been identifying themselves using actual names of county sheriff deputies, including Sheriff Chapman himself, he said. In the recent case, the victim was conned out of $36,000.

“These people are very good conmen,” Chapman explained. “They get on there and they will convince you that they are law enforcement and that if you don’t comply, you’re going to get arrested.”…
