New “Student Transition Day” Aims to Ease Students into New School Years

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is introducing a new, full-day initiative for the 2025–2026 school year called Student Transition Day on Monday, August 25th. This non-instructional day is designed to help students acclimate to new school levels and buildings before the entire student body returns.

The goal is to foster a sense of belonging, familiarity, and preparedness, making the official first day of school a smoother experience. According to MCPS, Transition Day is a targeted initiative for specific student groups who are entering a new phase of their academic journey. The day is for:
