Montgomery County warns of bloom in invasive spotted lanternflies

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Montgomery County, Maryland, officials are urging residents to prepare for a major increase in spotted lanternflies over the next few years.

The invasive insect, first spotted in the county in 2022, is expected to surge in population across some areas, especially places like Damascus and Brookeville, in the next three to five years, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
