MARYLAND (WBFF) — Individuals under court order for placement in state-run psychiatric facilities, on average, find themselves languishing nearly two months in local jails for their mandated hospital bed, with at least 10 instances of people waiting more than 200 days since 2023, according to records obtained by The Baltimore Sun.
“People are spending extensive amounts of time in the detention centers that are not receiving appropriate mental health treatment,” Lucienne Parsley, the litigation director for Disability Rights Maryland, said in an interview Monday.
