DC residents rally against federal policing surge with Go-Go and unity

WASHINGTON — Hundreds gathered Thursday evening at 14th and U streets in Northwest D.C. to voice their opposition to a recent surge of federal law enforcement in the city — using Go-Go music, community solidarity and peaceful protest to make their message clear.

The event, organized by local advocacy group Long Live GoGo, featured music, speakers, and calls to action. Organizers say it’s a direct response to President Donald Trump’s claims that the city was plagued by crime and needed federal intervention.

“It’s utilizing the percussion in the drums,” said Justin “Yaddiya” Johnson, one of the event organizers. “It has always uplifted the spirit of the community.”…
