CASA Condemns Violent Chase Down of Immigrant Community Members at Eastern Middle School

During early morning drop-off after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Eastern Middle School families were shaken as they witnessed masked federal agents taking down immigrant Marylanders near school grounds. Families have shared that they have kept children home, leading to a noticeable drop in attendance after the violent incident near the school’s drop-off and pickup area.

In response, CASA, the national powerhouse organization of working-class Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous and Immigrant communities, issued the following statement. This school is special to its membership, with CASA offering over 400 learners ESOL (English as a Second Language) classes at Eastern Middle School for years. Maryland’s largest immigrant-led organization demands that the State Department of Education and leadership offer clear guidance for all public schools, including Montgomery County Public Schools.
