BALTIMORE, MD—Maryland recorded the seventh-steepest percentage rise in shoplifting incidents nationwide between 2023 and 2024, according to a new study that highlights a growing concern over retail crime in the state.
The research, conducted by Las Vegas-based firm Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers using FBI Crime Data, found that reported shoplifting cases in Maryland jumped by 25.55%. The number of incidents rose from 25,329 in 2023 to 31,801 in 2024, placing Maryland in the top 10 U.S. states with the largest increases.
