Teacher’s assistant arrested for inappropriately touching students

WASHINGTON — Detectives with the Franconia Police Department are investigating a teacher’s assistant accused of touching two students inappropriately.

On Sept. 25, Child Protective Services received two referrals that a teacher, now identified as Derrick Burroughs, 40, touched two of his students on separate occasions. Burroughs was hired by Fairfax County Public Schools in 2023 as an instructional assistant and had been working at Thomas Edison High School.

On Tuesday, officers arrested Burroughs and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery and Indecent Liberties by Custodian. He was released on a $3,000 bond…
