Northern Virginia nonprofit provides free piano lessons to low-income students

Piano & More teacher Randie Goodie compares his style of teaching to “School of Rock,” the 2003 movie starring Jack Black. While introducing students to music theory and how to play their favorite songs, Goodie drops in life lessons such as self-confidence and perseverance. So far, so much like Jack Black.

There’s one heartwarming difference to Goodie’s story, though: While most of his students pay for their private, in-home lessons, three do not. They are part of Piano & More’s “Play it Forward” program, which gives some students at Title I schools in Northern Virginia free weekly piano lessons and their own keyboard.
