BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Almost 18 months after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, Maryland’s roughly $2 billion rebuild – which relies heavily on federal taxpayer money — is facing increased scrutiny from Washington, D.C.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned Gov. Wes Moore and state transportation leaders that the project’s costs are “ballooning,” schedules are slipping, and certain hiring practices may violate federal law.
Duffy last month sent a formal letter to Moore and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), expressing growing federal concern: “It’s my job to ensure the American people’s tax dollars are spent properly and major projects are completed on time and on budget,” wrote Duffy in September. “Ballooning project costs are already threatening to delay this critical project.”…
