BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Maryland has more than 3,700 children in foster care as of October 14, and the state can place them in residential treatment centers, hotels, group homes, or with families. Now, FOX45 News confirmed homeless shelters may also be an option for some jurisdictions.
Around the state, there are 3,750 children in foster care, according to data from the Department of Human Services, and 2,655 of those young people are in family homes. DHS said 100 children are in residential treatment centers, 506 are in group homes, 268 are in independent living programs, 40 are considered runaways, 12 are in hotels, 12 are experiencing hospital overstays, and the rest are in “in various other settings.”
