Maryland residents react to soaring vehicle registration fees, rank fifth highest in U.S.

MARYLAND (WBFF) — There’s heightened frustration from Maryland drivers over the costs of hitting the road.

The state’s new vehicle registration fees have almost doubled in the past two years and have made Maryland the fifth most expensive state in the country for registering a vehicle.

The new fee of $120.50 for the average vehicle is only slightly less than fees in North Dakota ($162), Illinois ($151), Oregon ($137) and Montana ($127). In contrast, registering a vehicle in Mississippi costs just $12.75, while Delaware charges $40, and Pennsylvania $48. New York and Texas have fees near $50, less than half of what Marylanders now pay…
